Hello there. I've decided to make a guide to show noobs the fastest, easiest, and simplest way to softmod (hack) a Wii. This guide works for any version, any region. It is completely free- you only need to pay for an SD card on the off chance you don't have one already. So let's go! First: what you need:
An SD card (It can be SD or SDHC, but preferably SD, even though it's hard to find - note that if you're hacking on a version below 4.0 a normal SD card is REQUIRED) MicroSD cards are supported, but they are very unstable so I would greatly reccommend looking for a normal SD or SDHC card. Also, any SDXC card will not work on the Wii no matter what you're doing, and I have no clue how well miniSDs work since no one really uses them anymore
A Wii, obviously
A non-plus Wii Remote (If it has something that says WiiMotion Plus inside at the bottom, don't use it) Note that this is not strictly necessary- however, I don't know if all the tools you'll be using to do this are Wii Remote Plus-compatible, so use a plus Wiimote at your own risk
A external hard drive to store backup games on- however, it will be formatted, so make sure it's only for Wii games
A PC with an Internet connection
An Internet connection on your Wii is GREATLY reccomended
Some free time
So let's get started on the guide.
Get on your computer and go to modmii.zzl.org/ Scroll down and click on the ModMii version for your language to download it. Pick the defaults and let the installer do its thing. It should open up ModMii Skin. Type "I Agree" (no quotes) in the box and press Next. Choose "ModMii Wizard/Guide". Select Yes. Select your System Menu version. If you don't know it, go to your Wii main screen, click the Wii button in the lower left, click Wii settings, and it should be in the upper right. The letter next to that version number is what you need to pick next- this is your Wii's region. Now here you have to pick an exploit. There are many exploitable games, so if you pick one pick one with a game you own. But, I STRONGLY reccomend picking Wilbrand and I'll be going with that, so for the purpose of this guide pick that. Enter your Wii's MAC address- there's a guide on how to do that right there. When it asks you what version to downgrade to, DO NOT PICK ANY VERSION OTHER THAN YOUR CURRENT ONE. VERY RECCOMENDED. Sorry to all caps there but downgrading is not something you want to be doing. Click next without selecting any of the boxes. Pick "No, I want the old System Menu"- themes are dangerous and you can very easily brick with them. (You can install a theme here, but it's not my fault if your Wii bricks, so use with precaution.) It's not worth the risk. Click Yes on the next option. Select FAT32. Now you can pick a USB Loader of your choice- I recommend just going with the recommended option (should be Configurable USB Loader). Pick USB. Click Next on the screen about picking where to save files. Click Next on the USB file screen, then click Finish. Now a big blue window should pop up and your browser will open with a page. The page is a guide on everything you need to do next. Keep checking on the blue window- once all the downloads have been completed, you can continue. The window that says "ModMii Classic working" gives you a progress bar. When it's done, click finish, then get out of the program. Now, go back to that guide in your browser. Follow it, and you should have a hacked Wii by the end!
FAQ:
I don't see Wilbrand Launcher in the ModMii menu!
A:
Upgrade your Wii.
Q: Can/will doing this brick my wii?
A: There is a chance, but it's a small chance. Be careful and follow ModMii's instructions.
If you have any questions or are in need of support, just post here or PM me if I don't answer after a while. Feel free to leave any feedback you have on this guide here as well.
